Autobiography-Final

Family Background

My name is Pin-Ting Chen.  I was born and raised in an ordinary family composed of five members.  My father operates a printing factory; he works hard around the clock to support my family.  My mother is a secretary in a trade company; apart from her job, she also has to deal with lots of  housework.  My two sisters are both students.  My parents teach us to be diligent and honest; moreover, they want us to plan our life thoroughly because they consider that we should be responsible for ourselves.  Both of my parents are righteous and they influence me in many aspects.  I am grateful for my family very much.

School Life

I am studying at Department of Applied Foreign Language in National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School (NTCVS).  I have been interested in English since I was a junior high school student and consequently, I decided to enter this department.  My performance in English has been not bad and I passed General English Proficiency Test (GEPT) for the elementary level when I was a ninth grader.  As an English major, I spend a lot of time studying English in order to improve my ability.  My teachers also provide me with great help.  I always pay attention to my teachers’ lectures and take notes of key points and review what I write down after class.  In addition to the textbooks, I read English magazines as well as other vocabulary and phrase books to enrich my content.  As a result, I have made a lot of progress in these two years and I took the test of intermediate level of GEPT and passed the listening and reading part.  Aside from English, I am similarly interested in Japanese and I studied it on my own for about three years.  As a result, I also enjoyed the Japanese club in second grade.  Moreover, I volunteered to serve as the practice section chief when I was a freshman.  I had to remind my classmates when the examinations were and was in charge of collecting registration fee.   Since I had never assumed such a position, I really learned a lot from this experience.  Not only did I grasp the concept of responsibility but I also learned how to deal with my tasks efficiently.  As for my classmates, they were all freindly and passionate.  Whenever we took part in a game or event, we always cooperated with one another to do our best; when we encountered difficulties, we similarly tried to come up with solutions that could satisfy everyone.  I am glad to be able to study and share my school life with them.

I am a hard-working and diligent person who is willing to learn everything.  Whenever I find something I don’t know very well, I make effort to understand it, and I have strong desire to explore everything I am curious about.  I have been interested in language for many years.  I have started learning English since elementary school and I also started learning Japanese for about three years.  Although I haven’t mastered both these two languages very well, I will constantly sharpen my ability.  Aside from language, I like reading and music as well.  I always make use of my free time to read novels of my favorite authors.  In addition, I have been learning piano since I was little, so I also practice playing piano.  Playing piano helps me feel relaxed and develop appreciation of classical music.
I deal with things with patience and carefulness lest I should make mistakes; as a result, I am often praised for my caution. Once I make up my mind to do something, I do my utmost to achieve my goals and never give up easily.  I hope that I can take advantage of my time to the full; therefore I manage to minimize the waste of time on doing things which won’t do me good.
My motto is:There is nothing you can’t succeed as long as you try to make it; there is nothing you can succeed without trying, either.”  I believe in this saying and keep it in mind all the time.  It encourages me to face challenges and obstacles positively.

Future-Perspectives

In the future, I will continue majoring in English, as I have been more and more interested in English since I entered senior high school.    Taking a variety of English-related courses, I find that my competence in English still leaves something to be desired.  In order to be more proficient in English, I think I must spend more time practicing English speaking, writing, listening and reading. Therefore, I am resolved to sharpen my ability in my college days.  I am longing to be admitted to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology because the curriculum your university provides can help me achieve my goal.  I hope to get more certificates and take professional courses to make myself a competent person and be able to talk in English like a native speaker.  In addition, I would like to participate in all sorts of activities so that I can broaden my horizon and enrich my school life.
